Russian Oil Painting on Papier-Mâché Cherub Cupid and Psyche’s First Kiss
This original Russian work of art duplicates a famous painting by late 19th century French artist William Adolphe Bouguereu entitled “L’Amour et Psyche, Enfants. Translated it reads Cupid and Psyche as children. It is also often referred to as cherubs first kiss.
The image features cherubs Cupid and Psyche floating within the clouds. Cupid gently kisses Psyche’s cheek. Note Cupid’s white wings, portraying him as immortal. Psyche’s butterfly wings signify her as a human transformed by Cupid’s love.
The painting utilizes papier-mâché as the canvas. Additionally, numerous layers of lacquer overlay the image. Finally, a decorative gilt frame completes this splendid work of art.
The painting is signed Bopohuob in the lower right corner.
