Silver Campaign Style Wristwatch by Lancet
A rare campaign or trench style wristwatch by Lancet, a brand name of the Langendorf Watch Company of Switzerland. Given as a presentation piece honoring French General Joseph Joffre (1852-1931) who was the commander-in-chief of French forces on the Western front during WWI until 1916. Joffre was best known for regrouping and rallying the retreating allied armies during the first battle of the Marne in September 1914.
Crafted in sterling silver, the case top opens to reveal the timepiece which maintains the original enamel dial in excellent condition. The dial is appointed with black Arabic numerals including an inner ring of red military hours, blued steel spade and whip hands, and a seconds subsidiary dial. The 12 hour is also red, which was often the case for these early military watches. A 15 jewel manual movement powers the watch. This special historical timepiece also bears a full restoration and an 18-month warranty.
