Swiss Singing Bird Box Automaton
A delightful Swiss singing bird automaton. Fashioned with real feathers, a colorful little bird emerges from the box to sing a sweet tune with the flip of a switch. Perched upon a foliate filigree platform, the little bird moves its wings, beak, and tail feathers while turning to and fro and singing. A spring-wound clockwork mechanism drives the captivating automation. All the marvelous mechanics are housed within a beautifully crafted gilt brass case. The case is embellished with intricate embossed florals, foliate vines, and trims. The top is done in a cross-hatch pattern centering the lid, which depicts an angel blowing his trumpet among scrolling foliage.
Singing bird boxes were among the most challenging automata to execute in their day. Mechanics for this box include bellows, sliding whistles, and a complex animation clockwork. All are masterfully handcrafted into a compact space to bring this beautiful automaton to life. Further, this piece bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
Bird boxes are some of the most collectible automata pieces, prized for their fine artistry, advanced mechanics, and infinite charm.
