Tiffany & Co. Pocket Watch Conversion to Wristwatch Wristwatch By Doxa
This fabulous pocket watch was crafted for Tiffany & Co. by Swiss luxury watchmaker Doxa. Seamlessly converted into a wristwatch, it is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and distinctive style. Since the late 1800s, Doxa has crafted timepieces of mechanical beauty and precision with exceptional workmanship. Dating to the Art Deco era, this unique watch was beautifully crafted in an oversized curved rectangular case of 14K yellow gold and embellished with leaf and scroll engravings. Further, it has been fitted with contrasting 14K white gold articulated lugs matched with similar engravings. A manual 15-jewel mechanical movement powers the watch, displaying the time on the original restored dial. The sleek-looking face features bold Arabic numerals and blued steel Breguet-style hands.
The origin of conversion watches is a fascinating journey that intertwines the evolution of the watchmaking industry with the changing needs and styles of society. Gaining popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this shift was brought upon by the need for a more convenient way to tell time and the rise of wrist watches as fashionable accessories. Artisans and jewelers began modifying pocket watch movements and cases to fit comfortably on the wrist, creating custom-made straps or bracelets to secure them. This practice is still done today, like the example shown here. These beautiful timepieces represent a pivotal moment in horological history where form met function in a new and innovative way. Over the years, conversion watches have become cherished heirlooms, passing through generations as symbols of watchmaking heritage, elegance, and ingenuity.
This very distinctive timepiece also bears a complete restoration and carries an 18-month warranty.
